My entry to "The Promised Land" ® was a 1976 Mustang II with a four cylinder engine and four speed manual transmission. This was a car that my parents bought while I was in high school. I wasn't impressed enough to really "get into" Mustangs then, since I wasn't really "into" cars when I was in high school and college. But it really was a pretty cool car, especially for a four cylinder, and I drove it until it was just about ready to fall apart in the driveway. Then I turned it over to my brother. ;-)

This was followed by years of driving underpowered four- and six-cylinder cars, I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy the V-8 I'd always wanted. I tried the Camaro Z-28, but the curved windshield made me "seasick", there was no trunk space, and the seat wasn't high enough above the floorboards. So, I tried the Mustang, and fell in love, again, immediately. The fact that it was about US$ 5,000 cheaper than the Chevy didn't hurt, either.

I couldn't be happier, either! It's taking some getting used to the additional horsepower, though. I came from a 1993 Ford Probe, 2.0 l five-speed, and almost doubled the power, and probably more than doubled the torque. The difference is astonishing, and I'm still getting used to it after several months. The specs are here .
